BOTOX and Hyperhidrosis Treatment
BOTOX® is a derivative of the deadly botulism toxin but in small quantities it is safe. It is produced from the spore forming bacillus Clostridium botulinum it acts as an inhibitor for the release of the neurotransmitter that causes sweat production. Because eccrine glands are innervated by cholinergic sympathetic fibers and the pathophysiology of hyperhidrosis suggests that hypersecretion is mostly the result of over stimulated eccrine glands. By interfering with the release of this neurotransmitter a reduction in the sweat production can be achieved.

BOTOX ® treatments for hyperhidrosis take 10 to 20 minutes and can be performed in the doctor's office. Daily activities can be continued immediately after treatment (though intense exercise should be avoided for a few hours). Following the BOTOX® injections, a marked reduction in underarm sweating will be noticeable within several weeks. In the event that some sweat glands are missed in the initial treatment, some sweating from untreated areas may occur.
